It’s run through time. An overview of where we are, what we’re doing and an update on our travel plans.
In 7 weeks time (eek) we will be jetting off to Koh Samui, Thailand! Transiting in Singapore, the 13 hour flight from Manchester will be my longest yet, second to Paris to San Francisco flight which was 11.5 hours long. What are your in-flight strategies to pass the time?
We then transfer onto a quick flight over to Koh Samui. Flying with Singapore Airlines, one of their representatives came into my current working office the other day and I sweet-talked him a little, managed to get us a cheeky Honeymoon cake confirmed for the flight – get in! My boss is currently sweet-talking a higher member of staff from Singapore Airlines to see if we can have lounge access in Manchester Airport, fingers crossed, I’ll keep you posted.
Packing for a year away is easier than I thought!
Anyway, I digress. We have been crazy busy, every weekend has been filled with wedding/travel/renting based activities. I have almost read all the Lonely Planet books that cover most of South East Asia and beyond. I have been reading some great blogs too, getting advice on where to go, what to do and how to make this blog better for you all.
We have had our jabs – Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Polio, Typhoid and Rabies. We still need to buy all our other medical bits, Malaria tablets, Deet, First Aid kit too.
I did a trial run of my back-pack to test how full and heavy it would be and I was pleasantly surprised. I may have been too eager as there are still a few bits to buy but it was light, manageable and half full! Packing for a year away is easier than I thought! Haha. There will be a post of what Pete and I pack so look out for that next month/early April.
What we have planned so far:
Koh Samui, Thailand, as you know is booked. 10 days at Peace Resort in Bo Phut on the north coast. We are treating ourselves to 10 days of a bit of luxury before the back-packing starts. After two years of saving for a wedding and a massive honeymoon, packing up and renting out our home, I think we deserve a long week resting by a poolside with a cheeky cocktail in one hand, a good book in the other, music in my ears and my shades on…bliss. Whilst in Koh Samui, we will likely visit the islands of Ko Pha Ngan and Ko Tao. After the 10 days we will head to Bangkok and we have 3 nights booked there. After that, the road ahead us is free until 5th May where we have a flight booked to Tokyo, Japan!
That is a lot of money when you think about how cheap the rest of Asia is.
After taking some advice from fellow travellers, we have booked our whole itinerary for Japan. This was to save money and also guarantee accommodation. We are spending 12 days travelling round Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Naoshima and Hiroshima. All our accommodation is booked, which cost around £50 ($62) per night. Once we are finished in Japan, we will be flying to Hong Kong!
Unfortunately it seems like we may have to cut out China (sad face!) We aren’t writing it off fully yet, we definitely intend to go one day, but we are conscious of how expensive this trip will be, plus for China we each need tourist visas which will cost £175 each ($218)! That is a lot of money when you think about how cheap the rest of Asia is. Plus, we want to spend a lot of time in Australia which is also going to be expensive to explore, and to arrange visas for too. So, weighing up our options and reviewing our itinerary, China may have to wait.
We have to book a flight out of Japan as to not have any issues on arrival in terms of immigration. We need to get travel insurance, buy a few more bits for packing and I think that’s about it. The rest of our life plan is revolving around the wedding. I am actually getting nervous now guys!
So…. I think that is my run-through complete. You guys are now up-to-date on our plans.
